About Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Cognitive Hypnotherapy utilises Hypnotherapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Evolutionary Psychology and Positive Psychology practices to facilitate changes to unwanted behaviours or thoughts. Drawing on various tools and techniques I am able to guide the changes which will allow you to regain control in the best way for you.

The three principles are:

Trance is an everyday occurrence

We are all in and out of trance every day. Have you every driven home arriving to find that you can’t remember the last part of the journey or have you been so immersed in an enjoyable activity and have been surprised at how quickly the time has passed? These are all forms of trance!  Cognitive hypnotherapists believe that when we are experiencing a problem  that this is a form of trance.  Do you find yourself saying "it’s just not like me" or "I know that it makes no sense but when…" these are all forms of trance and just because It’s not useful doesn’t mean it doesn’t has a purpose…

What this means is practice.
Because trance is a natural state it is easier than you think to relax into a trance during your sessions with most clients surpised at how relaxed they feel. Throughout your trance although we are able to access your unconscious to work with the core issue while you remain aware and able to communicate.

Every behaviour has a purpose

Your unconscious is very clever it works hard everyday to keep you safe from harm, developing and enjoying life. Unfortunately sometimes our unconscious minds (with all the very best intentions) processes  information, situations or feelings in a way which may lead into a negative state or what you may recognise as emotional hijacking (negative trance state).

What this means is practice.

By exploring the intention of your problem we are supporting the reprocessing (relearning) of a thought, feeling or situation which ensures an effective long term resolution.

Everyone is unique

It is the belief within NLP that everyone has their own ‘model of the world’  that we each experience life uniquely. This is true of both our negative and positive experiences, processes and feelings. How we do things or feel about them are only relevant to us.

What this means in practice

Individually tailored sessions that focus the patterns, thoughts and feelings which are unique to you . Unlike traditional hypnotherapy which uses set scripts for certain issues cognitive hypnotherapists are able to draw on a variety of skills and tools to develop the most effective approach for each individual.

As a cognitive hypnotherapist I draw on all of these principles to tailor sessions designed to get you to your outcome in the most positive and effective way.
